Frequently Asked Questions

What is CLEARTEIN®?

CLEARTEIN® is NURA’s clear protein platform developed for modern food, beverage, and supplement applications. Unlike traditional protein powders, CLEARTEIN® uses hydrolyzed peptides optimized for high solubility, optical clarity, and low viscosity, making it purpose-built for lighter, more refreshing formats.

CLEARTEIN® is designed for any application where clarity, texture, and clean dispersion matter. Primary targets include protein waters, hydration drinks, sports beverages, juice-style RTDs, fruit-flavored stick packs, protein shots, and RTM powders. It also performs well in smoothies, gummies, sauces, and other protein-fortified food and beverage formats.

CLEARTEIN® is available in pea, rice, soy, whey, and yeast protein options, with blended formats also supported. Pea and rice are strong fits for vegan and plant-based positioning, soy brings a familiar nutritional profile, whey offers dairy-based protein quality recognition, and yeast provides a differentiated vegan option with a complete amino acid profile

Neutral and acidified CLEARTEIN® options are designed to support different formulation needs. Acidified versions are often a better starting point for bright, tart, refreshing profiles such as lemon-lime, citrus, berry lemonade, and tropical concepts. Neutral versions are typically a better fit for smoother, milder systems like vanilla, chocolate, coffee, matcha, and savory or creamy applications.

Why does CLEARTEIN® use low molecular weight peptides?

Molecular weight is the primary driver of how a protein behaves in solution, influencing solubility, viscosity, clarity, and mouthfeel. CLEARTEIN® is built around a dominant peptide fraction below 500 Daroughly 36 times smaller than standard whey protein at 18,000 Da. That size advantage is what allows CLEARTEIN® to dissolve cleanly, stay clear, and deliver a light drinking experience where conventional protein systems fall short.

Hydrolyzed proteins can carry bitterness, and CLEARTEIN® is no exception. Sensory performance varies by source: soy peptide has the cleanest profile, acidified pea peptide is a solid middle ground, and rice peptide shows the most noticeable off-notes. Bitterness is also dose-dependent, and keeping inclusion at or below 5% in RTD formats is the recommended starting point across all sources.

Yes. As a hydrolyzed protein, CLEARTEIN® is inherently heat-stable. Unlike intact proteins, it will not denature, gel, or spike viscosity under intense thermal treatments. It has performed well in popsicle and gummy applications, and UHT pilot testing is underway to confirm exact parameters.

It depends on the protein source. Pea, rice, and yeast options are free from major regulated allergens and are the right fit for allergen-conscious formulations and free-from positioning. Soy and whey are major allergens and carry standard labeling obligations.
